The Environmental Emphasis allows students to understand their environmental responsibilities, both inside and outside of business. This Emphasis brings faculty and students together from various disciplines to study and research emerging topics in environmental management such as environmental auditing, management of environmental technologies, environmentally sound manufacturing design and life-cycle analysis, corporate culture and employee awareness of environmental issues, employee and community health effects of environmental exposure, and firm and manager civil and criminal liability considerations.
The interdisciplinary nature of the Emphasis draws from Vanderbilt’s extensive university involvement with environmental business through the Vanderbilt Center for Environmental Management (VCEMS),a cooperative effort between the Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy, the School of Engineering, and Owen with expertise in management and technology, strong ties to industry and government leaders in environmental policy management, and an exceptional academic reputation.
