Smoke graduated from Cornell in 1989 with a BA in Agricultural Economics and began his career in the consumer packaged goods industry (CPG) with National Wine and Spirits (NWS). In 1991, he founded Cameron Springs Water Company which became the #1 in its market and sold to Nestle in 2000. He received his MBA from Vanderbilt in 1993 and moved into the corporate division of NWS, eventually becoming EVP, CFO and a member of the Board of Directors until 2004. Smoke formed Taliera in 2006 to acquire brands and businesses in the beverage industry. He also served as chairman for the Indianapolis Foundation for Junior Achievement from 2001-07 and is currently president of the Alumni Board and serves on the Board of Visitors at Owen. He is an Eagle Scout and volunteers with troop #56 of the Boy Scouts of America.

Susan Adzick is Vice President of Sales & Marketing for McLane Foodservice, a $4.5B subsidiary of McLane Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Susan is responsible for sales and marketing, national accounts and customer relations. Susan started her career in food distribution as Vice President of Operations for PepsiCo Food Systems, and was promoted to Vice President of National Accounts. Previously, Susan was in the chemical manufacturing industry with Occidental Chemical Company, Rhone-Poulenc and DuPont de Nemours, Inc. She earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering and an MBA from Vanderbilt.

Debra is currently the senior marketing manager for the Northeast Life Sciences & Health Care practice of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP in Philadelphia. She is responsible for the development and implementation of Deloitte’s life sciences and health care marketing strategy in the northeast, including MA, NY, NJ, PA and CT. Debra also supports Deloitte’s health care marketing efforts in Nashville and manages a Deloitte life sciences and health care marketing team in Hyderabad, India. Debra received her MBA from Vanderbilt and her BA from Albion College. Debra currently serves in an advisory capacity to Owen’s Marketing Committee and to the Executive Council of New York. She also serves on the Board of The Children’s School, where her two children, Dmitri (6) and Vika (4), attend.

In his current role as vice president, North America Marketing, Tom Barr ignites Starbucks’ emotional attachment with customers through programs that address local market conditions and accelerate profitable growth. In this capacity, he manages marketing teams across the United States and Canada with the mission of designing sales driving programs through promotion, sampling and advertising. He has a BA in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College and an MBA from Vanderbilt. Barr, a native of Virginia, lives in Seattle with his wife and two children. He is active in his community and currently serves on the board of the King County Library Foundation (President 2005-06).

Douglas is Director of Product Management at MicroStrategy, a publicly traded technology firm which develops business intelligence software. MicroStrategy has grown from a private software vendor with approx 300 employees to a major player in the business intelligence space with over 3,500 employees, 3,000 customers and a run rate of approximately 350 million in annual revenue. Douglas serves on the boards of Tenacity (inner city youth development program), Brookline Music School and The Church of the Redeemer Outreach and Stewardship programs. He spends his free time with his wife Teresa (Vanderbilt 1987) and three kids Clasby (10), Ford (8) and Sallie Lawrence (6), coaching a number of youth soccer and baseball teams.

Les joined his family’s transportation and truck leasing business, Coble Systems, upon graduating from Owen in 1983. Les has also worked with J.C. Bradford and Co. and Equitable Securities. In 2004, Les and a partner purchased Nashville Cash & Carry (NCC) from Sysco Corporation. NCC retails institutionally packed food and paper goods to restaurants, churches, schools, caterers and the public. Les is married to Elizabeth and has three children: Olivia (16), Stella (11) and Daviss (2). When he isn’t chasing Daviss, Les likes to bike, hunt, ski and travel.

Currently, Dave runs a Denver-based consulting and acquisition search firm called BASIS Strategy Group. Dave earned a BA from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Vanderbilt. Russell is currently a board member with Adams Golf. Jackie led the company that Vanderbilt founded and Discovery acquired in 2006. She has continued as a consultant in the K-12 assessment field and education products that work to improve instruction. Her career spans 30 years in technology-based executive management positions. These include two start-up companies that became multi-million entrepreneurial enterprises—ThinkLink Learning in education and Telco Research in telecommunications acquired by NYNEX. In addition, she worked with the governor of Tennessee to manage the implementation of the Internet in all of Tennessee's K-12 schools. A former teacher, she has served in education technology advisory capacities to the National Governor's Association, Council of Chief State School Officers, and CEO Forum.

Hugh and his wife, Ellen, have three children: Caldwell, a senior at Wake Forest University; Caroline, a sophomore at Sewanee-The University of the South; and William, a junior at Montgomery Bell Academy.

Van is a retired founder and Chief Creative Officer of Avenue Bank, and continues to consult with Avenue Bank on their entertainment industry initiatives. She is remains active in Nashville's entertainment industry community with her husband, songwriter Monty Holmes. She enjoys her service on several community boards (Americana Music Association, Tennessee Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, The Women's Fund). An MBA graduate of Vanderbilt, Van has enjoyed a 30+ year career in banking and is well-known among leaders in Nashville's entertainment industry. She is a past president of Leadership Music.

John received an MBA from Vanderbilt in 1998 and a BS in finance and accounting from Marquette University in 1991. He is a candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a member of the CFA institute. In addition to spending time with his wife and three young sons, John enjoys skiing, triathlons, coaching and philanthropy. He and his family reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Donna is responsible for all recruiting, policy administration, employee relations, training, HR Legal compliance, compensation management and benefit management and administration for Pacers Sports & Entertainment. Donna is also on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis and is a member of the Management Committee and Co-Chair of the Career Expo for the Big Ten Basketball Tournaments. Donna has an undergraduate degree from Duke University where she was an economics major and co-captain of the nationally ranked 1988 Duke Field Hockey Team. She received her MBA from Vanderbilt in 1993 where she not only received a great education but also met her husband Jeff. Donna and Jeff reside in Fishers, Indiana, with their two daughters, Natalie (9) and Claire (7).

Accenture Test Services provides strategic and tactical Consulting and Systems Integration services in the area of Quality Assurance and Testing. Jeff joins his wife, Donna, on the Owen Alumni Board of Directors. The Wilkinson family spends its free time traveling and participating in various athletic activities.

Brad is the Director of Product Development for Tudor Investment Corporation in Greenwich, CT. Tudor is a leading asset management firm. Previously, Brad served as Head of North American Institutional Relationships for Goldman Sachs Hedge Fund Strategies. Brad graduated from Princeton University with an AB in politics. He received a JD and MBA from Vanderbilt. Brad is the President of his class at Princeton, a member of the Owen Alumni Board, and a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association. Brad has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
The Alumni Council
The Alumni Council enhances communications among classes through the efforts of class representatives. These representatives (one for each MBA, EMBA, IMBA and MSF class) spread the word about upcoming events and opportunities for alumni involvement.
